Clayton Cowl, MD, MS
Dr. Clay Cowl has been a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) and a HIMS AME for more than 20 years. He holds a joint appointment as Chief of the Section of Transportation Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota as well as serving as a lung specialist in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. His experience with clinical care and research in altitude physiology, aeromedical certification, and as a HIMS-trained medical examiner lend to providing specialized care for the aviation community. Clay also served as the President of the Civil Aviation Medical Association, was a prior President of the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), and is a commercially-rated pilot with ratings in flying hot air balloons. His dedication to pilots and extensive collaboration with the FAA and other pilot organizations has complemented the services Mayo Clinic offers our patients.
